SharePonit 2010 External list URL field - how to make it clickable

I've an external list in SharePoint 2010 based on a SQL Server table and
one of the fields happens to be a URL to a folder in SharePoint. The text
is showing up in the column but of course it isn't clickable, just
wondering if anyone knows of a way to make it clickable?
Alternatively I'm thinking of creating a custom action button somewhere on
the ribbon that if you select an item in the list and then click the
button it will navigate to the URL, I assume I'll need to do that in
Visual Studio as a solution?
